If you find the 17th Edition for sale on any other website or in a bookstore, it is being offered by a reseller who has either purchased the books or charts from us, or was given complimentary copies by Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.
The data contained in the Chart of the Nuclides is compiled by the scientists at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation (BMPC) manages and operates Knolls under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Navy. BMPC, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bechtel National, Inc (BNI), prints the books and wall charts at its own expense. Many of these are provided to Knolls for their internal use, and to distribute free of charge to various nuclear research institutions around the world.
In exchange for this, BNI/BMPC is given permission to sell remaining charts and books to the public. The price we set for the books and charts is calculated to largely recover printing, shipping, and handling costs - but not to make a profit. Bechtel is pleased to be able to provide these products at the lowest possible cost to nuclear industry professionals around the world.
